Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. Although loosely structured, the film is concerned mainly with four topics: Che?mno, where gas vans were first used to exterminate Jews; the death camps of Treblinka and Auschwitz-Birkenau; and the Warsaw Ghetto, with testimonies from survivors, witnesses, and perpetrators.

The sections on Treblinka include testimony from Abraham Bomba, who survived as a barber, Richard Glazar, an inmate, and a rare interview with Franz Suchomel, an SS officer who worked at the camp who reveals intricate details of the camp’s gas chamber. Suchomel apparently agreed to provide Lanzmann with some anonymous background details; Lanzmann instead secretly filmed his interview, with the help of assistants and a hidden camera. There is also an interesting account from Henrik Gawkowsky, who drove one of the trains while intoxicated with vodka.

Testimonies on Auschwitz are provided by Rudolf Vrba, who escaped from the camp before the end of the war, Filip Müller, who worked in an incinerator burning the bodies from the gassings. There are also accounts from various Polish locals, who saw the trains heading daily to the camp and leaving empty; they quickly guessed the fate of those on board.

In regards to Che?mno, the only two Jews to survive are both interviewed: Simon Srebnik, who was forced to sing military songs to amuse the Nazis; and Mordechaï Podchlebnik. There is also a secretly-filmed interview with Franz Schalling, who was a guard.

The Warsaw ghetto is discussed toward the end of the film, and the appalling conditions there are described by Jan Karski, who worked for the Polish government-in-exile, and Franz Grassler, a Nazi administrator who liaised with Jewish leaders. Memories from Jewish participants in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising conclude the documentary.

Lanzmann also interviews Holocaust historian Raul Hilberg, who discusses the historical significance of Nazi propaganda against the European Jews and the Nazi invention of the Final Solution.

Though the film has generally been highly praised, some Poles have criticized Lanzmann claiming he was selective in his use of Polish subjects, that he mistranslated some dialogue, and that he edited the film to create the impression that Poles willingly co-operated with the Nazis, cutting out anything which contradicted this view[2]. Others have argued that Lanzmann was simply showing the horrific manipulation and efficiency of the Nazis while operating their death camps amongst the citizens of Poland.

As Jigsaw reveals himself to Adam (as seen in the first Saw), Dr. Gordon crawls from the bathroom to find help. Along the way he reaches a hot pipe and uses it to cauterize his amputated foot. Samson and Delilah are two 14-year-olds who live in an Aboriginal community near Alice Springs. Samson sniffs petrol every morning before he starts his day and, as something of a routine, plays his brother’s guitar on his way out of the house. He lives in a run-down shelter with his brothers band playing similar music, all day, right outside his bedroom. It becomes clear Samson is interested in Delilah, another local girl who lives with her grandmother He throws a rock at her outside the local convenience store, as a way of gaining her attention. In spite of encouragement from her grandmother Delilah is initially not interested in him. Samson spends a day following Delilah around as she takes her grandmother on her daily routine; visiting the health clinic, painting Aboriginal Art and strolling around. He attempts to move in with Delilah, even though she is clearly uninterested in him, by taking his mattress and throwing it onto her property. She refuses to let him in, until he jumps the fence and forces his presence upon her. She gives up, and accepts it. Delilah wakes up to find Samson’s mattress right next to her own. She is clearly annoyed, and gets out of bed straight away. She attempts to wake her grandmother up but instead comes to find that she has passed away, and in doing so, cuts off her hair in a traditional gesture of respect and mourning. Samson leaves as it becomes clear to him Delilah does not wish for him to be around, and moves back to his old shelter. The next day Samson is in a fit of rage, knocks out his brother with a stick, in order to shut him and his band up. After this incident, Samson is bashed by his brother for knocking him out and damaging his guitar. The same thing is happening to Delilah; the other old women in the community blame her ‘neglect’ for her grandmother’s death. Samson visits Delilah after he re-gains consciousness and comes to find she has also been beaten. He decides to smash things in anger, and that night steals the community car. He takes Delilah with him as she sleeps. When Delilah wakes up she realises what has happened, and attempts to get away from Samson, though she comes to realise that he took her away out of fear for her safety. Despite the fact that the two never speak to one another, it becomes clear that they are falling in love. When they arrive in Alice Springs, they find a homeless man, Gonzo, living under a bridge, who is an alcoholic.

He is kind to the couple, giving them food and water. Samson continues to rely on petrol sniffing, and his habit progressively worsens. At one point, he gets so high from the fumes that he does not notice when Delilah is taken by a group of white teenagers in a car. She is raped and bashed, but she eventually comes back to Samson, who is unconscious on the floor due to the petrol sniffing. She also begins sniffing petrol with Samson. Under the same circumstances as her abduction, they are both walking along the street and Delilah is hit by a car. When Samson eventually comes to and realises she has been hit he believes she is dead, and cuts off his hair as a sign of respect. He spends weeks sitting in the same position under the bridge sniffing petrol as a means of getting over Delilah’s death. Delilah comes back and rescues Samson, and they are both brought back to their old village. As they arrive one of the community’s old women begins to beat Delilah with a stick for stealing the community’s only car. Delilah decides to take Samson away to a secluded area, as a way of rehabilitating, and getting over his petrol sniffing habit. Eventually Samson stops sniffing petrol, but the effects of the petrol have left him almost helpless, and Delilah is forced to fend for him and herself.Read more

Zinos, a German of Greek descent, owns the Soul Kitchen, a restaurant providing simple food, in Hamburg. The business runs of sorts. Zino’s girlfriend Nadine, who works as a journalist leaving for Shanghai and his incarcerated brother Illias needs a job to extend his special leave from prison. Also Zinos suffers from a slipped disc and cannot afford treatment because he has no medical insurance. He hires the fiery and knife-throwing chef Shayn who brings dramatic changes to the restaurant. Firstly the regular guest, who are accustomed to Schnitzel and Currywurst, are shocked by the new Haute cuisine, but by and by they learn to cherish the good food. Thanks to the Band of waiter Lutz and a DJ mixing console, which was stolen by Illias, the Soul Kitchen becomes a popular music local. But soon new stress is caused by property shark Neumann who tries to buy the restaurant for a new property development. Meanwhile Zinos to craves for Nadine. In order to save his relationship Zinos makes Illias the managing director of the Soul Kitchen and wants to travel to Shangai. But at the airport he meets Nadine, who’s now in love with a Chinese man. In Zinos absence Illias loses the Soul Kitchen trough Poker to Neumann. During the attempt to steal the deed of ownership from Neumann, Illias is arrested by the police. Zinos is below the floor, especially by his very impaired spinal disc herniation. But with help from physiotherapist Anna and alternative chiropractor Kemal, he is healed. Fortunately Neumann is arrested by the fiscal authorities and becomes Illias new fellow inmate in prison. The Soul Kitchen gets auctioned off and with financial help from Nadine, Zinos buys his local back.
